Profile of Emerging Switchgrass

Switchgrass (and other warm season grasses) is slower to establish than traditional row crops. Knowing what to expect in the establishment year is key to having realistic expectations concerning the appearance of a first year stand.

3 months after seeding - 1’ high leaf blade with generally more upright form, 0-4 tillers


4 months after seeding - 2’ maximum height, with immature seed heads emerging
