Aster lanceolatus (Lance Leaved Aster) is also known as Symphyotrichum lanceolatum. Lance Leaved Aster is an erect-growing, very rhizomatous native aster that can grow to a height of 4.9 ft. Aster lanceolatus blooms in late summer/early fall with white flowers. The seeds of Lance Leaved Aster have a pappus (parachute) that aids in wind dispersal of the seeds. Lance Leaved Aster naturally occurs in open woods, old fields, roadsides, and moist low places. Aster lanceolatus readily volunteers downwind of a source population. Lance Leaved Aster is an excellent choice for storm basins that are mesic to wet, as well as wetlands and wet meadows. Aster lanceolatus is a member of the aster (Asteraceae) family.
