Wild Senna, VA & WV Ecotype

Senna hebecarpa (Wild Senna) is a clump-forming, erect-growing wildflower that typically grows to 6.1 ft. Wild Senna is very long-lived, with Ernst Seeds having production fields that have persisted for at least 24 years. Senna hebecarpa blooms in mid/late summer with dense clusters of showy yellow flowers which can only be buzz-pollinated by bumblebees. The protein-to-lipid ratio of Wild Senna pollen is the exact ratio needed for bumblebees to raise their offspring.Senna hebecarpa is most commonly found from New York to Michigan and from Illinois and Tennessee to Virginia on in full sun to partial shade and mesic to wet soils of streambanks and moist open woods and fields. Wild Senna is drought tolerant and has grown well for us in well-drained soils. Senna hebecaerpa is an excellent addition to pollinator-friendly riparian and upland mixes.Senna hebecarpa is a member of the pea (Fabaceae) family.
